Both of us were looking forward for it.We were both 'excited' and
'tensed'.Not everytime do you get to do something different like spending a
day with a senior Cetian's family whom we had never met
before!
We seriously did'nt even know what to expect. How do they
look? Were they going to be a very serious couple? How will we spend a day at a
place that was totally new to us? These thoughts kept running in our
minds.
We had no idea who they were(knew their
names though).
Mr. Harikumar Menon of the 1976
Elec.batch and his wife Girija Devi had invited us
to spend a day with them. We had no clue about how it was going to turn out.
Honestly we expected a vey boring old couple. But little did we know
that our assumption was totally wrong.....
And Oh my Lord! What a lovely
couple they were! Not even once did they make us feel like outsiders and treated
us like their own family.
It did not take us much time to get along with
them.
Girija aunty had only one demand and that was not to be 'formal'.
They told us that people who are formal all their life are the losers and tend
to forget to enjoy life's best moments.
So both Uncle and aunty showed
us around the house and then said, "Now the house is all
yours!".
They
then told us about their family. They have fivechildren-Nithin,Nivin,Nikhil,Ravi and Rahul. We couldn't meet them as some of
them were studying and some working abroad.
Then it was lunch
time.
Aunty explained that they close their kitchens during weekends as
they prefer eating out. So they asked us what we would like to have. That's when
Aunty suggested a restaurant that they had visited once.
So we hopped on to
their white Mercedes Benz and drove to Hotel Rydges in Satwa. On the way,Aunty
talked about Uncle's cooking skills. She told us that he was a much better
cook than she was.[We then
decided that once we would drop by to enjoy a meal prepared by
Uncle:-)]
Then we reached the Hotel and went to the 9th floor of Rydges
and to the "Cocunut Grove"which served south Indian and Srilankan cuisine. We
were lucky to get a window seat and enjoyed our food along with some great view
of Satwa.
The food was lovely especially the appam and fish
curry.[Aunty loved it so much that she did not fail to personally go
and appreciate the staff]

some light moments at the restaurant

After that wonderful meal we returned to their
house.
Something that you wouldn't fail to notice when you are in their
house are the various plants grown in the house. Uncle and Aunty believed in
Feng shui and Vaastu.[They had a collection of laughing
buddhas too] So they believed that plants bring in
a positive aura to the house and takes away all the negativity in the house.
We later learnt that Aunty has an interest towards stitching and fabric
painting and she showed us few of her works.
And it was simply amazing.
She showed us the materials that she used and taught us how to do cross
stitching and fabric painting too[Aunty made us promise that we would
try it at home and show it to her the next time we meet]

Then we entered the kitchen(something that
we dont usually do at our own house unless it's to get something to
eat)
Aunty had planned to teach us how to make kesari. She
told us that it was the easiest sweet to make and as we loved kesari we
were intrested in knowing how it was made.
It felt very nice to make
something on our own(of course with some help from Aunty)
So here is our kesari's recipe:
1.Fry 1 cup Rava in 3-4
tbspns of ghee 2.Add 3 glasses of hot water 3.Add 1cup sugar 4.Add a
3/4 cup of ghee 5.Add a little colouring of your choice 6.Stir
well 7.Butter the serving dish and pour the mixture into it 8.Keep it
aside and let it cool
And your kesari is
ready!
Then we packed some kesari to bring it back home.
After
that wonderful time in the kitchen all of us sat back and had some talk and
enjoyed some tea and our kesari along with it.(Our kesari did
taste good though Uncle thought we could have made it
sweeter)
We then started clicking photos of each other to store
some memories of that beautiful day...
We had so much fun that we
did'nt even realise that it was time to go back home. Uncle called up
our parents and told them that they would drop us back home. Uncle and aunty
dropped us back home and we thanked them for that wonderful time at their
place. We never thought that we would have such a nice time with someone whom we
had never met.

It was a very different experience and a memorable one
too. What we liked best about them was their charm and attitude. That helped us
bond with them well and made our stay very comfortable. We surely had a
great time and we thank Uncle and Aunty for those beautiful moments that we will
always cherish in our hearts.
